2005-01-15 - Seduced by the hypnotic, educational, special report series:

Right now I am in the middle of a documentary series on CBC's Newsworld. Let me just say that I am a CBC news lover already, because it is so crisp and concise and not patronizing and sensational (coughCNNcough).

But this documentary series, Meet the Stans, focusing on the countries in central asia - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan - about which little is really known in the western world. It is absoloutly fascinating.

Not to mention the series' host, Simon Reeve, has an excellent media voice. He could read the phonebook and I could be enthralled - he is just so damn smart.

Anyway, I am going to stop being the unofficial spokesperson for a news network and get back to the documentary series, which resumes in about 10 minutes.

Does this make me a nerd, if this is how I am spending my Saturday night?
